Privacy Policy

How this site handles your data

This page explains what personal information is collected when you visit canonseverywhere.net, what is done with it, and the rights you have under European data protection law (the GDPR).

The site is intentionally simple. There is no analytics tool, no advertising, no newsletter, no user accounts, and no tracking pixels. The collection that does happen is described honestly below.

Who is responsible

This site is operated by Philippe Bodin, an independent composer based in France. For any question about your personal data or this policy, please write to philippe@philippebodin.com.

What is collected, and why

The contact form. When you send a message through the contact page, the form collects the name and email address you enter, together with the text of your message. This information is sent to Philippe's personal email inbox so that he can read and reply to you. It is not used for any other purpose, never shared, and never added to a mailing list.

Web server logs. Like every website on the internet, this site is hosted on a server that automatically keeps technical logs of incoming requests. These logs may contain your IP address, the type of browser you use, and the pages you visit. They are kept by the hosting provider for a short period (typically a few days to a few weeks) and used solely for security and debugging. Philippe does not consult or analyze them.

Cookies set by this site. The site itself does not set any tracking cookies. Some technical cookies may be set by the underlying website framework for essential functions like remembering your scroll position; these do not identify you and are not shared with anyone.

Third-party content embedded on the site

Some pages embed content hosted on other platforms — for example, audio players from SoundCloud, video players from YouTube, or social media content from Facebook. When such content loads on a page you visit, those platforms may set their own cookies and collect data about you according to their own privacy policies, which Philippe has no control over.

If you would prefer to avoid this, you can install a browser extension that blocks third-party content, or simply not interact with embedded players. The rest of the site will still work normally.

How long the data is kept

Messages received through the contact form remain in Philippe's email inbox for as long as they are useful — typically until the conversation has clearly ended. They are not exported, archived, or stored elsewhere. If you would like a particular message deleted, just ask.

Who the data is shared with

Nobody, with one unavoidable exception: the hosting company that operates the server hosting this site has technical access to the server logs and to the email account that receives contact form messages. They are bound by their own privacy obligations and do not use this data for any independent purpose.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data of yours is being held;
  • ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong;
  • ask for it to be deleted;
  • object to its processing;
  • file a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL, if you believe your rights are not being respected.

To exercise any of these rights, write to philippe@philippebodin.com.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, because a new feature is added to the site — the updated version will be posted here, with the effective date below updated accordingly. The site does not have many visitors, so there is no notification mechanism beyond this page.
